Random Madison Question

To my fellow TAs: anyone out there use GHC and wear glasses? I'm trying to decide if it'd be cheaper to buy glasses at the clinic, or go someplace like LensCrafters. Any thoughts or insights appreciated.

Also, if anyone knows how I can convince my landlord that it's his responsibility and not mine to pay for maintenance on the freakin telephone wires, please let me know.

As far as I can tell, it's mostly about what kind of frames you want. My first pair were from LC and the most recent from GHC. There didn't appear to be a price difference for the lenses.

Also, the place where Dan got his glasses on State St. offers a student discount.

I recommend EyeMart Express on Odana.

My prescription is so ridiculous, that it doesn't much matter. They will always be expensive if I want them thinner than coke bottles. Seriously, I wasn't able to wear wire frames until mid-undergrad because they couldn't make the lenses thin enough back then.

It probably will depend on the frames, though. You could probably go look at frames a couple places and see what your options are. And ask for a quote for your lenses!

As far as your landlord dispute goes, here's three words for you (plus some nice extras):

Tenant Resource Center
(http://www.tenantresourcecenter.org/)
(608) 257-0006
Walk-In: 1202 Williamson Street, Suite A
Hours: 9 AM - 6 PM, M-F

They are free and dedicated to helping you figure out what you can and can't get your landlord to do for you. If it is your landlords legal responsibility to fix the phone lines, they will be able to tell you.

I've talked to someone there -- it was only on a fairly low-key matter that I had a question about, but definitely helpful. Perhaps others could offer further testimonials.

Thanks. Seems like a moot point, as I had a service guy in today, and they're going to repair the outside wires and he basically found a way to bypass all the inside wires. Though I now have a telephone cord running up the outside of my apartment through my kitchen window. Which I'm not sure will survive this apocalyptic rain, but hey.
